BIOGRAPHY
I was born and brought up in London and spent all my working life there, we also brought up our three sons in London. However when I was a child my mother lived on the edge of Exmoor and we used to go to stay there in the holidays so I grew up feeling very comfortable in the country as well as the city. My mother painted and gardened and my father, although our London garden was pretty small, absolutely loved pottering about in it. I worked as a Magazine publisher until I was 50 and after that I did unpaid work in various capacities, including the following:

- I spent several years in a State school in Brixton initially doing one-to-one reading and then as a governor.
- From 1993 -2014 I was a Trustee of The Eileen Trust which was a Government grant giving organisation set up to help people who because infected with HIV from blood (and associated) transfusions.
- I was a trustee of Sparrow Schools - a school for disadvantaged children in Johannesburg.
- From 2010 to the present day I have been a Trustee on the national board of the National Garden Scheme
- Since 2020 I have been Deputy Chairman of the National Garden Scheme
